The Cummins 6BT when in trucks such as the Leyland DAF 45 were coupled to an S5-42 gearbox. Standard stuff, but to put this gearbox in a truck that requires the gearstick to come through the transmisson tunnel is a no no as the selector unit is side mounted and for forward control. So the solution, find a top loader gearstick, but these are like rocking horse 💩. Options are either find one in America as they were used on Ford broncos and the suchlike, but getting one shipped is a nightmare. UK based suppliers had dried up, but step in Baruch Sekenofsky who I befriended on a forum for Cummins engine swaps. He had made the adaptors before and made me a robust unit that uses a mix of OEM parts from the side loader selector, gearstick from another manufacturer, but all works perfectly and nice short throw on the selector once fitted. Taking out the engine from a car that you believed to be in perfect condition when it arrived back from major work isn’t something that’s relished, but when water damage had been done either deliberately or through lack of care & attention then needs must.

Folie the forgotten Firenza, not quite forgotten again, more funds meant a bit more work could be done. Chassis stiffeners to allow the old chassis rails to better support the planned 400ci V8 that’ll be going in. More work to the flip front mechanism to allow the front clamshell to lift and then pivot so that the front splitter doesn’t get smashed each time it’s moved.
